Sleeping baby

I still value every second that I get to hold my babies to sleep.

Tahlia the singer

Tahlia’s current ambition is to become a singer.  She has been practicing her song all weekend.  The Beatles: “Let it Be”

Keely’s immediate question:  what is the difference between “Let it Be” and “Let it Go”?

KiKi Ice Cream Shop!

Keely comes home and complains that most of her friends at school do not actually believe that she has an ice- cream shop.

Preparations

Tahlia and Keely have joint performances tonight.  They are both in the orchestra in A and B teams respectively. Keely is really excited about this event.

Keely after swimming class

Keely, the imprint of your swim goggles seem to stay on your face hours after you have returned home.   Today you came home telling me about your swimming classmate who intentionally gathered water in her mouth with the intention is spitting it in your face.  After the second time the teacher caught on and told her to stop.  Poor baby Keely!

Mother’s Day Gifts.

I received my mother’s day gift a little later this year but that was totally acceptable.  We are always busy and the kids schedules are always packed.  Tahlia also contracted the horrible “foot and mouth” disease last week.  She came home after school on Friday afternoon and everything seemed normal but at 8:30pm her mouth started hurting.  We inspected her mouth and found lots of red dots inside.  We immediately took her to the clinic and were lucky that we were able to get her looked at before the clinic closed.  It was immediately confirmed that she had contracted the foot and mouth disease.

In the following few days, the lesions in Tahlia’s mouth began to multiply until there were over 20-30 lesions in her mouth.  She was in such discomfort that she couldn’t eat or talk.  She just didn’t want to open her mouth.  She took a week off school and her teachers told her not to worry about her homework and just focus on rest.  Tahlia got to catch up on a lot of rest.  She became quiet and depressed and it was so painful to see a normally high spirited girl become so quiet and tired all the time.

On the 5th day of her illness she recovered and was able to stop taking the pain killers. By the 6th day she was back to normal and the first thing that she started focusing on was my mother’s day gift.

When we returned home that evening she and Keely blindfolded me and made me do a series of silly exercises while blindfolded (i.e. hop on right foot, hop on left foot, walk 30 steps forward, turn 360 degrees etc).  Finally they lifted the blindfold and asked me to search for my present.  Inside were an assortment of amazing treasures.  Tahlia and Keely jointly made a card for me with a lot of touching expressions of gratitude.  Keely made me what she called a “small” magnet but in fact it is probably the largest magnet that I own.  Her reasoning was that the ‘actual’ magnet in the back of her design was small.  Keely also has the same amount of persistence and insisted on finishing up a decorating a cookie for me despite how tired she was.  The white design on the cookie is of Baymax.  Tahlia crafted a flower ring and keychain for me using playdoh.  She also formulated her own technique of hardening the dough and creating a gloss finish using glue.  They are both so thoughtful and creative and I love them both so much.  The truth is.. they don’t really need to give me a mother’s day present.  They themselves are the best present ever.  It is my absolute privilege to be able to see them and spend time with them everyday.  I love you babies.

Tonight’s dinner: Mango chicken!

Janly made an amazing dish tonight. The stir fried chicken was very tender, and the mango sauce was fruity and sweet. The yellow sweet sauce was complemented by green mint leafs. The mango chicken was a very delicious dish.

Tahlia’s drawing from 2008.

Just found a small sketch made by Tahlia when she is 4 years old. My precious.

Bike ride along 風芝門

This Sunday, we went up to 陽明山二子坪 for a quick hiking trip. The weather was extremely hot in the city, the temperature reached 36 degree Celsius at noon. When we were up in the mountain, the air was fresh and cool. The forest trail was veiled by mountain mist and cloud. Kids were fascinated with collecting seeds from different species of tree. We hiked in the forest for couple hours, we then drove to 白沙灣 just in time for Sunset. The beach front was quiet by the time we arrived. We enjoyed a short half an hour ride before the sun completely set. Keely was determined to make a sand castle on the beach before we leave. Mommy and Tahlia went with Keely to the beach in darkness, but swarm of termites already occupied the whole area and its impossible to play anymore. Next time we will come early and finish the bike trail along the beach front.
